Three different Donegal School deputations will visit Dáil Eireann and the Minister for Education today in an effort to progress their respective building projects.
The Schools on the deputations to the Dáil today the 18th of May are; Scoil Adhamhnain, Luinnaigh, St Marys National School, Stranorlar and Gaelscoil Na gCeithre Maistrí, Donegal Town.
Pat the Cope Galagher has arranged the deputations and will be joined on the deputations by Deputy Pearse Doherty along with representatives of the various Schools and their Boards of Management – the different deputations will meet directly with the Minister for Education Richard Bruton.
Deputy Gallagher said it is of critical importance that the Minister and the Department of Education officials know first-hand the urgent need for works to commence on these schools.
“In the case of St Marys NS of Stranorlar an entire new build is required – the site has been secured and planning permission is already obtained for the urgently needed new school building.
“The Minister will be told directly by the parents and representatives of the school who are on the deputation – that the current conditions of the school fail to meet health and safety standards and is grossly inadequate for the school needs.
“In the case of the Gaelscoil na gCeithre Maistrí, Donegal Town the school needs an entire new building – the Gaelscoil has experienced great growth in numbers over the past decade and the school is a huge success. It is essential that the Department of Education and the Minister progress this project in order to fast track a new build for this project.
“In the case of Scoil Adhamhnain in Luinnaigh, Gweedore, additional capacity is required at the school for general purposes, also the school requires improvement works on energy rating. Structural works need to be carried out at the school also. The case of Scoil Adhamhnain is well documented with the Department over the past number of years.”
Pat the Cope complimented the parents, teachers and Board of Management representative who gave up their time voluntarily in order to make their trip to the Dáil so that the cases of all three schools can be advanced.
He added “It is going to be imperative that the Department of Education Officials and the Minister for Education give these groups a fair hearing and commit to delivering these projects in a time efficient manner and avoid any further delay urged.”
