U8 Football (Girls) –
Our U8 played Moville away on a wet Saturday morning. Through the cold and the rain the girls all played a blinder, showing great spirit and determination. Every score taken was the result of great combinations of hand and kick passes. Every players involvement made for a great wee game of football.
The improvements in skill level and team play are evident with each game played. Thanks to Moville GAA for hosting us! The team, the coaches and the manager which to thanks all the parents for their continued support and transportation help. Without you all these games would not be possible!
U12 Football (Girls) –
Our U12s girls played Malin on Wednesday evening 10th May. The first five minutes were tight with both teams battling hard, but Sorcha Doherty opened the scoring with a great goal shortly after Aoife Carey was fouled and she converted the resulting free kick. From here Buncrana just grew stronger!
The defenders dealt with everything that came their way – keeping Malin scoreless. Sorcha Doherty & Tara Rose Mahon were excellent in defence.
The midfielders linked up well with the forwards and in total 5-12 was scored by the girls. We had eight different girls getting on the scoresheet and all of them took their scores extremely well!
Special mention to Ava McLaughlin who really was the super sub. She only came on at the end of the first half but she has definitely earned her place for next week!
Scorers:
Sorcha Doherty 1-00
Aoife Carey 0-02
Alannah Curran 0-01
Leah Deehan 1-01
Chloe Donaghey 1-02
Kate Sarsfield 0-01
Nicole Mc Daid 1-02
Ava McLaughlin 1-03
Well done to all the squad and congratulations on your first game Carla Curran!
Our U12s girls played two games against MacCumhaills in Ballybofey on Friday evening 12th May.
Game 1 –
The older girls were first to play and it was a real team effort. Buncrana were first on the scoresheet with an excellent goal from Leah Deehan. She followed this up with a super point & finished the first half with 3-01 to her name. Hollie Ferguson was the only other buncrana girl to score in the first half putting over a great point. However it was by no means a two woman game the team was excellent from back to front- Mollie Connolly, Tara Rose Mahon, Gemma Loughrey and Sorcha Doherty were excellent in defence and held McCumhnaills to a single point in the first half.
H/T score; Buncrana 3-02 to 0-01
The second half was a much tighter affair and our girls were unlucky in front of the nets a number of times! However Ava McLaughlin added an excellent point from play and Aoife Carey scored a great goal in the final minutes of the game.
F/T score; Buncrana 4-03 to 2-01
Game 2 –
Our younger girls played the second game and in the first half Ballybofey were noticeably stronger, however the girls never gave up they kept fighting for ever single ball and just before half time Kate Sarsfield struck over a lovely point.
At half time Ballybofey were well on top.
However after the break Buncrana went out fighting with Aine Jordan putting away a quick goal. This was closely followed by another point from Kate Sarsfield. At the other end of the field Moya Logan made a number of point blank saves and without her Ballybofey would of scored a lot more. Paul Duncan would be proud!
Towards the end of the half Heidi Gill struck a fine goal but it simply wasn’t enough to close the gap. The young girls should be proud of their efforts as they battled hard and never gave in. Megan O’Hagans tracking back showed just how hard these girls were trying. Tara McCarron made a number of super blocks and has definitely found her position in defence.Aine, Kate & Heidi all played excellent despite being so young – Carla Curran and Blaithin Lalor did excellent for two girls who only joined our team a few weeks ago. Super!
Senior Football (Ladies) –
Our ladies travelled to face Moville this morning with only 16 players available but they put in a great display; showing that they are getting more tactically aware and work extremely hard for each other! The scoreline flattered Moville somewhat but the squad can definitely take some good positives from the game to move forward with.
U8 Football (Boys) –
Our young lads had a great morning in Moville on Saturday, albeit wet and chillier than it had been all week. Thanks to Moville GAA for hosting us and to the parents for travelling and supporting!
U9 Football (Boys) –
A section of our U9s played away to Letterkenny Gaels on Wednesday evening 10th May.
The boys played well in parts and have great potential with plenty more practise at home and at the club.
Thanks to Owen Roe for the bus and the Four Lanterns for their excellent service.
Thanks to our hosts also.
U10 Football (Boys) –
Buncrana Under 10 Gaelic Footballers were in blitz action at Creggan Kickhams Club Antrim on Saturday 6th May.
The first game was against the hosts and once the two Buncrana teams settled into their rhythm, they played some excellent football taking fine scores along the way.
Next up was Belfast’s St. John’s club who proved a very tough and physical opponent. The response of all of the players was superb and both teams faced up to the challenge with gusto and performed very well against a very strong St. John’s side.
St. Paul’s provided the third game and the Scarvey lads proved too strong in both matches in two very entertaining games.
The final game, against Derry’s Ballerin, was an excellent display of football between two very evenly matched sides.
It was a great day out for the boys who played with pride and passion throughout and performed excellently despite losing Ross Doherty Roe to a toe injury in the first game.
A feature was a number of scores taken on both sides of the body as well as fisted points. There were a few lads missing due to other commitments and the squad that represented the parish on the day was; Oran Doherty, Andrew Rudden, Mike Lynch, Ross Doherty, Shay Coyle, Shay Deeney, Pauric McBride, Mikey Donaghey, Ben McLaughlin (SP), Ben McLaughlin, Shaun Lynch, Darragh McDaid, Stiofan McGonigle, Elliot Friel, Jack Sheerin-Gill, Liam Duncan, Eoin O’Hagan, Jack Guilfoyle, Callum Friel, Padraig McGonigle.
Next up is the Newry tournament on Saturday 20th May and training continues Monday and Thursdays 6.45pm for a 7pm start and as always new players interested in playing our national games are always welcome and many of our players are have only taken up the sport.
A big thank you to Darryl, Tony and everyone at the Kickhams Club for feeding everyone and for making us very welcome as they always do. We look forward to hosting them in the Annual Sean Masterson U10 Tournament later in the summer.
The Management, players and club wish Devin McCarron a speedy recovery and hope he is back terrorising opponents very soon!
Future is bright – green orange and white…
