The Letterkenny Primary Schools’ Track & Field event took place yesterday at the Aura complex in Letterkenny.
The mild weather, fantastic athletes, and teachers who helped organise the event made the competition a great success.
In the Javelin event, the gold medals in the 2008 category went to Orlagh Faul from Glenswilly and Jay Whoriskey from Illistrin. In the 2007 category, Sasha McCrey from Scoil Mhuire gan Smál and Bobby Halpin from Scoil Mhuire Ramelton secured first place in the girls and boys category respectively.
In the 100m relays, Lurgyback won first place for the 2007/2008 category for the girls, with Illistrin taking home the gold in the boys race. In the 2005/2006 category, Gaelscoil girls were followed closely by Kilmacrennan, but managed to secure first place. Scoil Colmcille came first place in the boys section.
Competition was tense in the 60m sprints, with Sandra Wozniczak from Scoil Mhuire gan Smál securing gold in the 2008 category, and Jake Burrows from Kilmacrennan securing gold in the boys section. In the 2007 category, the winners were Fareedat Bashar of Scoil Mhuire gan Smál and Promise Adesanye from Educate Together. In the 2006 category of the 80m finals, the first girl and boy across the finish line were Promise Achusi of Scoil Mhuire gan Smál and Bartek Wozniczak of Scoil Colmcille.
In the 100m sprints in the 2005 category, Emma Gribben of Scoil Mhuire gan Smál and Elvis Okoh of Scoil Colmcille secured gold. In the 2004 section, Gabrielle O’Donnell from Glenswilly and Christopher Murray of Scoil Colmcille were the first girl and boy to dash across the finish line.
In the 500m run, in the 2008 category the first girl and boy to cross the finish line were Orlagh Faul from Glenswilly and Harry Shiels. In the 2007 category, Gemma Rodgers from Scoil Mhuire gan Smál and Mark Galvin from Lurgyback took home the gold. The 600m run in the 2006 category was won by classmates Beibhinn Coyle and Philip McGee.
In the 2005 category, Emma Gribben from Scoil Mhuire gan Smál and Declan Doherty from Educate Together were the quickest to run the 800m, and in the 2004 category Sarah Bradley and Oisin Kelly took home the gold.
Sarah McGinley from Glenswilly and Eoin Scott also from Glenswilly managed to secure first place in the long jump in the 2006 category. In the 2005 category, Ellie Simms from Kilmacrennan and Dan O’Connell also from Kilmacrennan came in first place. Gabrielle O’Donnell from Glenswilly placed first in the 2004 girls category, with Oisin Kelly from Kilmacrennan winning in the boys section.
