The average cost of rent in Donegal has risen by by over 14% compared to this time last year.
The latest quarterly Rental Price Report from property website daft.ie. has shown that the average cost of rent in Donegal is now €593. This is a 2.9% rise or €17 more than the previous quarter.
This means that rent has risen by 22% or over €130 from its lowest point in 2012.
While the monthly price of rent in Donegal was much lower than the nationwide average of €1,131. Donegal’s percentage increase was higher than the 13.4% rent hike nationally.
In comparison the average cost of renting in Dublin City centre was €1.553 per month, up 1.5% from the previous quarter.
Author of the report Ronan Lyons said that “Since 2013, market rents nationally have risen by just over 50%. However, sitting rents have increased by just 27%. In other words, those who have stayed in the same lease have enjoyed a discount relative to market rents, with rents increasing by just half the increase seen on the market.”
