Sinn Féin members in the Letterkenny Municipal District have ratified Glenswilly senior football manager, Adrian Glackin, as the replacement for former councillor, Mick Quinn, who recently announced that he is stepping down on health grounds.
Mr Glackin received the support of fellow party members at a selection convention in The Lagoon, Termon on Thursday night.
The event was addressed by Senator Pádraig Mac Lochlainn & Cllr Gerry McMonagle who paid tribute to Mick Quinn for his lifetime of dedication to Irish republicanism and to his local community.
Mick also made a passionate speech and thanked everyone who supported him during his political career. He then spoke of his pride in holding the position.
The convention was chaired by Sligo Councillor Chris McManus who verified that Adrian Glackin was successfully selected.
Commenting after receiving the endorsement, Adrian Glackin said; “I am extremely proud to have been endorsed by my fellow Sinn Féin members and I am committed to doing our party proud by delivering for the people of my community.
“It is an honour to become a county councillor and I understand the responsibility that this position entails. The people who vote for Mick Quinn in the past, expect and deserve strong representation on their behalf. I intend to provide that representation.
“I know that I have very big shoes to fill in taking over from Mick but I look forward to the challenge ahead.
“I would encourage everyone in the area with any issues that they would like raised within the council or anything which they feel I can help them with, to contact me at any time and I will endeavour to have those issues addressed.”
