Champagne corks are being popped in Carrigart after a local shop sold a ticket worth €6,172,404!
Mickey Joe’s Country Store in Umlagh, Carrigart sold the €6 million ticket, with the other lucky ticket being sold in Westmeath.
Owner Mickey Joe Gallagher celebrated the sale of the lucky lotto ticket earlier with staff members Helen McBride, Stephanie Hay, Helena Devenney and John Devenney.
Speaking to Donegal Daily, Mickey Joe says that the atmosphere is electric and everyone is over the moon.
“Everyone is ecstatic and totally excited.”
He said that although they have sold winning tickets before, this is their first time selling a ticket worth millions.
“We had a girl get on Winning Streak a few months ago. We’ve had a couple of tickets in the thousands, but this is our first in the millions.”
When the National Lottery contacted the store this morning to inform them that they had sold a €6 million ticket, Mickey Joe was speechless.
“I said ‘what? Say that again’, it was hard to believe!”
Last night’s jackpot of €12 million was split between the Donegal winner and the Westmeath winner – both wins were from quick pick plays.
The winning numbers are as follows: 3, 7, 17, 21, 22 and 28, and the Bonus number is 2.
National Lottery Chief Executive, Dermot Griffin, said: “There will be some very happy players today when they check their tickets and realise they have had a life-changing win.
“We are delighted that the Jackpot was shared. It is a huge amount of money that will make a difference to the winner’s lives.
“With so many winners from Saturday it is so important that everybody to check their tickets to see if they hold winning numbers.”
