Glengad United 2 Buncrana Hearts 0
With the title already wrapped up following Wednesday’s 1-0 win over Aileach, Glengad ended the League season in style.
Glengad dominated early on and opened the scoring on 22 minutes when Cathal McDaid fed Patrick McDermott who fired low past Eoghan O’Doherty from the edge of the area.
Buncrana replied with a long range Stephen McHugh effort gathered safely by Kevin McLaughlin. Glengad doubled their lead on 65 minutes after John Gerard McLaughlin (picture) headed a deep John McDaid corner high past O Doherty from eight yards.
Glengad continued to dominate possession but created few chances until the 85th minute when McDermott’s twenty five yards effort was well saved by O’Doherty.
Glengad saw the game out to go through their league campaign undefeated the first time since their neighbours Culdaff managed it in 1998-99 and complete a hat trick of consecutive league titles for the first time in the history of the league.
