A housing estate in Letterkenny has been sealed off to deal with a potentially explosive device at a house.
The device was brought to the home at Manor View Park after it was found by a family while walking at Knockalla Drive yesterday.
Residents of the house became worried about what is believed to be an explosive shell.
They contacted Gardai who contacted the Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal team who are now on their way.
The area has been sealed off and they are awaiting the explosives experts to deal with the device.
A Garda spokesman said “This device was brought home for whatever reason and it does pose a danger to the public.
“We do not know exactly what the shell is or how live it is but we obviously cannot take a chance and had to contact the relevant authority.
“They are on the way at the moment and the matter will be taken from there.”
