Gavin Cullen praised Cockhill Celtic match-winner Jimmy Bradley as he again proved the hero as the Inishowen men captured a fifth successive Donegal News USL Cup on Sunday afternoon.
Bradley’s 41st minute goal gave Cockhill a 1-0 win over Derry City Reserves and sets up a possible League and Cup double with Cockhill knowing that they need only a point at Swilly next week to seal the League title.
“We’re delighted,” Cullen said.
“It was a tough game today. We had to dig deep and we did that. We were excellent in the second half, shape-wise, picking the ball up in the right areas.
“That Derry side can play and we limited their chances. They had a wee period of dominance and had a couple of chances. We should have scored a couple more in the second half.”
The goal arrived four minutes before half-time, Bradley steering high past Eric Grimes after Gerry Gill’s corner was put back across goal.
Cullen said of Bradley: “People on the outside don’t realise how important he is and he deserves this.”
The victory has Cockhill back in title territory again.
Cullen said: “Next week is massive and we know it’ll be tough. We set out our stall to win trophies and be involved in the latter stages.
“The team is tired and jaded, but that’s a mindset and they showed good attitude to win a tough game today – it’ll be required next Sunday again.”
