Donegal drivers’ shameful speeding fines double

The amount of speeding fines handed out to Donegal drivers have more than doubled compared to this time last year.

Garda statistics show that the number of fines received by local drivers is up 118% for breaking the speed limits.

As well as speeding, many drivers in Donegal are not listening to warnings not to drink and drive.

So far this year a total of 85 drivers have been found guilty of drink-driving.

Head of the Garda Traffic Corps for Donegal, Inspector Michael Harrison appealed to people to slow down, wear their seat belts and not to drive while under the influence.

“The message we want to put out is that if people think they can speed or drink and drive is that they will eventually be caught.

“We would appeal to the public not to speed, to wear their seatbelts and never to drive under the influence or they will eventually face the consequences and will be banned from the roads,” he said.
