Crana College has received from the European Commission, the “Certificate of Excellence in Coding Literacy” in recognition of our participation in Code Week 2016.
The Buncrana school believes coding is for all, not just for programmers.
It’s a matter of creativity, of computational thinking skills, of self-empowerment. Creative coding has to be introduced in the classroom to bridge diversity gaps and make the difference.
During Code Week 2016, the European Union launched a challenge specifically for schools, the CodeWeek4all challenge. This program intends to increase the presence of coding in pedagogical curricula, with the creation of disciplines in this field.
The challenge consisted of getting as many students involved as possible during Europe Code Week 2016. Schools achieving a participation rate greater or equal than 50% were awarded a personalised Certificate of Excellence in Coding Literacy.
The planned activities with students of the school during CodeWeek. EU was planned and coordinated by our Digital Champions team and teacher Thomas Boyle.
Thomas said “I am very proud of our students here at Crana College, this certificate from the European Commission represents the hard work by every student in promoting Coding within the school.
“It also gives us confidence to progress with the implementing of the Junior Cycle short course in Coding on the curriculum, providing our students with the skills they need for their future in this digital world.”
