An armed checkpoint on the outskirts of Stranorlar overnight has been described as routine by Gardai.
The checkpoint, which was set up at Kilross Junction, was operated by four detectives and uniformed officers.
Uniformed Gardai stopped motorists to ask them their names and addresses.
However, a Garda spokesman told Donegal Daily the checkpoint did not relate to any specific incident.
The spokesman said the checkpoint was most likely part of security measures now being operated along the border.
