Matt Mc Nulty, the Former Director General of Bord Failte has paid tribute to the late Councillor Sean McEniff.
Councillor McEniff passed away yesterday afternoon following a period of ill health.
Matt Mc Nulty said “I would like to pay tribute to Sean Mc Eniff councillor, hotelier and entrepreneur.
“An ardent lifelong advocate for the success of Donegal and for tourism and a most worthy recipient of Donegal man of the year in 1996. He served on the board of Bord Failte and his legendary high energy enabled him to set a record for his dedicated service on Donegal County Council and as Chairman of North West Tourism. I had the pleasure of working with him in all these capacities.
“He worked with me serving as a Director of Bord Failte during an intense period when Irish Tourism was transformed in terms of its development and marketing.
“He was always the strongest of advocates for growth tourism and the optimum distribution of the benefits of tourism within the Island of Ireland.
“He was a pioneer and champion of cross border co-operation in tourism. He brought a very practical and active mind to find good solutions to complex problems.
“Donegal and Ireland have lost one of its greatest tourism entrepreneurs.
“I express my deep sympathy to Eilis, to Elizabeth and Conor and their families and to Liam, Pat, Brian and Mary and to all the wider Mc Eniff family” he concluded.
Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin has also paid tribute to Cllr McEniff, saying “Seán was a proud Donegal man and played an integral role in the promotion and development of business and tourism in the county and the North West region.”
