A community came together in the Social Centre Lifford last night to celebrate the memory of the late singer Stevie Martin (aka Rainy Boy Sleep) and to help raise funds for the new Pieta House North West Centre.
The day of events yesterday began with a coffee morning, before the evening guest tea, where everyone was entertained by local musicians Martin McColgan, Ted Ponsonby and the Henry Girls as they sampled some of the finest home baking provided. The successful event was the culmination of much hard work put in by the organisers.
The late Stevie’s Mother Marina Martin who organised the event spoke passionately of the benefits of Pieta House and the needs for this service in Donegal. The new Pieta House is due to open in Letterkenny on the 15th of May.
Marina, not wanting to single anyone out, wished to thank everyone that helped with this event which she planned to mark Stevie’s memory. Stevie’s 30th Birthday would have been celebrated on the 11th of March. The talented musician was laid to rest in August 2016.
Marina only recently learned how passionate Stevie was about the issues of mental health, as he had taken part in last year’s Darkness into Light walk. She now intends to join the annual awareness event this year herself.
