Volunteers in Buncrana are allowing the grass to grow under their feet but it’s all for a good cause.
On Monday last, Buncrana Tidy Towns members took part in a Marram Grass planting session at Lisfannon beach.
Marram grass tackles erosion by supporting dune systems to maintain their position and consolidate areas of loose sands.
Buncrana Tidy Towns volunteers regularly work on projects that support the local environment and develop the cultural heritage of the town.
A spokesman said “As a seaside town next door to the 4th largest city on the island, maintaining and investing in local beaches is a really important endeavor.
“Our voluntary work also provides an economic benefit to Buncrana. Tourism is vital to our local economy and as a community organisation we work with businesses, other voluntary organisation and Donegal County Council to deliver the standard of amenities visitors to the town expect.”
