After launching the 1for1@1 Schools Challenge earlier this week on Donegal Daily, Robert O’Connor and his committee at Relay for Life Donegal have already had a great response from schools from various parts of the county saying that they will take part in the challenge.
We here at Donegal Daily have teamed up with ‘Relay for Life Donegal’ as cancer affects every family, either directly or indirectly, and it is for this reason we are asking every school in Donegal for your help.
The challenge will run from Monday the 1st of May until Friday the 19th of May.
Between those dates we are asking schools from Malin Head to Bundoran and from Lifford to Arranmore Island to choose a day and at one o’clock to carry out your challenge and when completed we ask you to hand in one euro per child to the school- hence the name 1@1for 1!
If there is more than one child in the family one euro per family is all we are asking.
During that time any school, national, secondary or third level are invited to take part in the challenge.
The challenge can be anything that the individual school decides to do at one-o-clock on the day they choose between those dates and when completed each student brings €1 into the school, hence the name the 1at1for1 Challenge.
It can be walking around the school yard for a kilometre, a mannequin challenge, a singing or dancing challenge or indeed your school could possibly do a challenge that could go viral!
If at all possible we would like all schools to do a one-minute recording of your challenge and to send it to :- relayforlifedonegal@gmail.com, and they in turn will forward it to us at Donegal Daily.
As you can appreciate it would be impossible to put every single video up on our site but if you also include a photograph we will ensure that all photos will be posted. ( please note that Relay for Life will show all videos on a large screen during this year’s event).
Cancer does affect every family and every single euro raised goes towards the extensive research programme currently underway at Letterkenny University Hospital for cancer survivors. Irrespective of the size of your school ‘Relay for Life Donegal’ are hoping that you will take part because ‘’every euro’’ raised is so important to them.
The cost of the Research Programme is approximately €100,000 .
Donegal Daily will continue to update you about the challenge in the lead up to the start date on May 1st.
