Inishowen Tourism has pulled out all the stops to be part of this event in order to promote the destination as a place to visit on holiday or any special festival event associated with the filming in Malin Head.
“As Tourism Development Officer I was delighted to receive via email that our bid was successful to be one of three partners to share the Tourism Ireland stand”. We are able to participate on the basis that we can offer Star Wars-specific tours and holiday packages designed for Star Wars fans.
Tourism Ireland stated “we aim to maximise engagement with consumers to encourage potential bookings in collaboration with the other event participants”.
Inishowen Tourism’s team representative is due to arrive in Florida on the 11th of April to attend side by side with the Dingle Peninsula to promote their film based location.
As Denise is an avid Star Wars fan there is no better person to promote the area. She has worked with the manager and team to co-ordinate the trip and forged valuable links with the “Emerald Garrison” a Star Wars costuming club in Ireland that brings together like minded people from all over the world who will also be in attendance.
The Inishowen website has been updated with a dedicated section for Star Wars enthusiasts. We would encourage fans to click on visitinishowen.com/starwars link to read our Star Wars story here in Inishowen. It is packed with factual information on how to get here, what to see, and where to visit. Contributions have been made by trade members, documented and crafted to suit the visitor’s thirst for knowledge on the experiences during filming at Malin Head. It also includes memories of a special visit from Mark Hamill to Farren’s Bar captured with Hugh Farren.
As the momentum gathers around the event Denise hopes to take advantage of every opportunity to promote Malin Head and Inishowen through her presence in Orlando and the latest news will be fed back to the office to share on social media channels for those following the event here at home.
It is confirmed that Mark Hamill who is cast in the latest film at Malin head will be there, and the Director of Star Wars, The Last Jedi Rian Johnson will also appear on stage during a question and answer session.
There are rumours that the trailer for the upcoming Star Wars film the Last Jedi will be shown at the Star Wars Celebration Event.
Denise said “to catch a glimpse of Malin Head in the trailer would be the ultimate experience – our home on the big screen”.
