Investigation launched after six pet cats feared poisoned

The ISPCA is to carry out an autopsy on one of six cats feared poisoned in Lifford.

The pet cats have all been found at different locations in the Porthall area since Saturday.

The incidents were reported to local animal charity Animals In Need Donegal.

The deaths of the cats have also been reported to both Gardai and the ISPCA.

A spokesperson for Animals in Need told Donegal Daily that the ISPCA has agreed to carry out an autopsy on one of the dead cats to determine how it died.

“There could be another explanation but we fear that the cats were poisoned in some way. For six cats in the one area to die in such a short space of time is very worrying.

“We are appealing to people to keep an eye on their cats and to report anything suspicious to the ISPCA or the Gardai,” she said.

In a separate incident, there are reports that a cat trap was found in Ballybofey.
