Islanders reach mainland after basking shark threat subsides!

The 150 people on Tory Island off the Donegal coast have managed to make it to the mainland for supplies despite a week-long threat by basking sharks.

On Saturday last, we reported how the huge creatures had congregated in the mouth of the island’s harbour after one shark was injured in a collision with a local boat.

We also revealed how council officials had visited the island with special underwater speakers in a bid to disperse the huge creatures.

And many of you fell for it – hook, line and sinker!

It took many to read the last line when we gave away the date, April 1st, to actually realise there was something fishy going on.

Thanks to everyone who enjoyed a little laugh for the day that was in it. Until April 1st next year…..!
