Donegal drivers were found to be the second worst behaved motorists in Ireland, according to an AA survey.
Of the 7,000 motorists surveyed by AA Ireland, 19% said they have had bad past experiences with Donegal drivers. Dangerous driving and rude attitude were some of the common factors which led to the low opinion rankings of counties on the list.
Dublin was ranked at number one on the survey, with 46.77% of motorists saying that driver behaviour was at its worst in our capital.
Cork came in at third place of the worst drivers. Donegal was the exception to the common opinion that rural drivers were best-behaved. Drivers in Sligo and Leitrim were viewed as the best behaved in Ireland.
Conor Faughnan, AA Director of Consumer Affairs said there is a rising problem of rudeness and bad behaviour: “While this was perhaps a less serious question than others we regularly ask motorists, it is an opportunity to highlight the increasingly common issue on Irish roads of rudeness and poor driver behaviour.
“Every day we come across cases of dangerous overtaking, drivers failing to acknowledge the right of way, breaking the speed limit, or even shaving.
“Because we do it so often we tend to underappreciate how dangerous driving truly is and these kinds of behaviour not only put the offending motorist at greater risk of being involved in an incident, but can also increase the risk to other drivers and vulnerable road users such as cyclists and pedestrians.”
