Two thoughtful brothers who were devastated by Seamus Coleman’s horror leg break have sent out a kind Get Well Soon letter to their idol.
The boys sent their love to Ireland captain and Killybegs man Coleman and are hoping he will get their message through social media.
The 28-year-old Everton defender suffered a shocking double break during the World Cup qualifier against Wales last week at the Aviva Stadium.
Reece Kenny, aged 5, and Cody, aged 7, from Offaly, are two of Coleman’s biggest fans. They were lucky enough to meet their hero at the Ireland team hotel before the match last week.
“You were so kind and friendly to us,” wrote Reece in the letter. “We were at the match and we are so sad for you that your bones are broken.”
Their mother Michelle has shared their letter online on her Twitter account @michelleken31 and is now hopeful that locals in Donegal will be able to bring their message to Coleman.
Speaking to Donegal Daily, Michelle said: “Seamus was such a gentleman to the boys. He had his photo taken with them and signed their ball. He spoke to them for a while and asked where they were from.”
“The boys were devastated when the injury happened. We didn’t know how bad it was until we were leaving the stadium and they saw a photo on somebody’s phone.
“They felt because they met him the day before that they nearly knew him.”
Coleman has had a successful surgery on a broken tibia and fibula and will be out of action for many months.
Reece and Cody have been closely following Coleman’s road to recovery. The youngest, Reece, decided to send a personal message and put a lot of time and effort into perfecting the letter.
“It was all Reece’s own words. He sent me out to the shop with specific instructions for the card. He spent about an hour and half writing it and making sure everything was right.”
The Kenny family, from Blue Ball outside Tullamore, are avid Ireland fans and love to go to all matches. Now their wish is to repay the kindness that Coleman showed to them through this letter.
“We really hope you get better really soon,” writes Reece.
