Popular Inishowen culinary establishment McGrory’s Hotel, Culdaff have taken the top honour at ‘The Hotel Awards 2017’ by winning Bar of the Year.
The award was announced at a packed event in the Sheraton Hotel, Athlone on Tuesday evening.
‘The Irish Hotel Awards’ recognise achievements within the hospitality sector on the island of Ireland and Northern Ireland
The awards are about promoting development, rewarding excellence and celebrating achievement in the hospitality sector nationally, on an annual basis.
The awards celebrate the amazing commitment and dedication of the hospitality industry in Ireland in providing outstanding guest experiences.
A mystery guest visits each of the nominees over the course of the process and score their stay from their overall experience. From making a booking, standards are marked across the board with accommodation, food, atmosphere, drink and service all being critiqued.
Competition in the category was fierce, with eight national hotels including Sligo’s ‘The Glasshouse’ in the running to lift ‘Hotel Bar of the Year’
In the end there could be only one winner, and the managerial staff of McGrory’s Hotel were ecstatic with their win and were there on the night to accept the award.
“We are extremely proud of receiving this award. A lot of work goes on behind the scenes for us to bring this award back to Donegal. Our aim was to create a cool, chilled atmosphere in our bar where our guests can relax and enjoy genuine Inishowen hospitality and delicious locally produced food. We currently employ 40 staff, with this number rising considerably in the summer months.
“For us to now be number one in Ireland is a great success and this was down to a real team effort.”
