Pro Social Ireland Drivers Programme is a road safety initiative set up in Letterkenny back in 2012 at the request of Judge Paul Kelly, Inspector Michael Harrison and Tim Coughlan from the Probation Service to address the high instances of anti-social driving in Donegal.
This cognitive behavioural approach continues to go from strength to strength in achieving some very positive outcomes.
The programme, which aims at rehabilitating dangerous drivers, won the National Supreme Award in 2016’s Road Safety Authority ‘Leading Lights in Road Safety’ awards.
This weekend Pro Social held a very successful two day workshop in Motivational Interviewing (MI) at The Station House Hotel in Letterkenny.
The training was designed to further enhance the work which is currently being done by the Pro Social counselling team.
The workshop was also used as a platform to introduce some of the new personnel who are coming on board with the programme.
The training, which was delivered by Glenn Hinds, one of the leading proponents of MI in Ireland, was also made available to other partners and stakeholders, who are keen to see this innovative approach develop and expand.
Pro Social Ireland are currently delivering their Drivers Programme in Donegal and Monaghan and are due to begin working with a new group in Cavan next week. It is expected also that a pilot programme will be delivered in Mayo very shortly.
