Disgust as conmen allegedly faking charity fundraising and keeping cash

A spokesperson for BUMBLEance this week warned people against buying books from men going door-to-door purporting to represent BUMBLEance.

BUMBLEance is a charity that ensures that the journey of a sick child, who needs ambulance transportation to and from a treatment centre and their home, is the most safe and comfortable journey possible.

People who realised they were scammed by the conmen were disgusted, saying that they seemed very genuine and encouraged them to donate on the official website too.

Although reports are coming in from the Munster region, it is important that people across the country are aware that BUMBLEance do not sell door-to-door, and to report any suspicious activity to the Gardaí.

A spokesperson for Bumbleance said; “We have received many reports of three men from Cork travelling around Munster who are selling books and pretending to represent BUMBLEance.

“If you see them please take their details, car registration and alert your local Gardai.

“We are following up with reports to Gardai as these people are pocketing €10 a book and we are NOT receiving at a single cent!

“We have very strict procedures for fundraising and these “gents” are doing so without our approval or authorisation!

“Good people want to support BUMBLEance, so please donate via www.BUMBLEance.com and know that your money is going where you want it to go.

One woman in Limerick spoke on how genuine the men at the door appeared to be, saying that the man even had an identification badge pinned to a lanyard. However a spokesperson for the charity assured the woman that they never do door to door sales, and that all representatives have approval letters and registered sponsorship cards with them at all times.

Below are images the woman took of the puzzle book sold to her for €10. The booklet even included information on how to donate to the legitimate BUMBLEance fund, making them seem genuine.

Gardaí have been notified about the complaint against the three men and investigations are ongoing.
