There were emotional scenes last night in Buncrana as friends and family honoured the memory of Danielle McLaughlin.
The murder of the young local woman in Goa, India, last week has left the Inishowen community shocked and devastated.
As Danielle’s body is about to make its final journey back to Ireland, her family and friends came together to console each other and pay tribute to her life, which was cut short at just 28 years of age.
The Amazing Grace viewing point in Buncrana was illuminated in the twilight with candles as music by local band String Empire filled the air.
Mourners laid tokens of love and appreciation to Danielle, including flowers, memorial cards and photographs.
Poignant words from those closest to Danielle evoked many tears from attendees. Danielle’s best qualities were recalled with bittersweet memories. Mourners spoke of a kind, caring and ever-optimistic woman whose positive energy will be greatly missed.
The event was also used to call for justice for the young woman’s murder. Many questions remain over the crimes committed against Danielle as police in India continue with their investigations.
It is expected that Danielle’s body will return home to Donegal by the beginning of next week.
