An event will be held in Buncrana this week in memory of Danielle McLaughlin, the local woman who tragically died in India last week.
The young tourist’s life was cut short when she was murdered on a beach in the Goa district on Monday night. News of the 28-year-old’s death and the circumstances of her murder have left the Inishowen community devastated.
Friends and family have planned to come together to honour the memory of the popular young woman with a special evening vigil in Buncrana.
On Tuesday, March 21st, a remembrance ceremony is planned at the shore front commonly known as the Stone Jug in Buncrana.
Organisers Louise Mc Menamin and Christy Duffy have planned for locals to contribute kind words about Danielle and have asked people to bring special tokens and tributes including photos, candles and Chinese lanterns.
“There will be a few short speeches and everyone is asked to bring a candle and/or a Chinese lantern (it’s to honour Danielle and she would have loved this).
“There will be some great music by String Empire and everyone is asked to bring a smile and some happy stories/memories of Dani.
“We will also have a table with some recent and not so recent pictures for remembrance sake and please if you have any to add, bring them along. Hope to see you there,” Louise and Christy said.
The ceremony will take place from 7pm-8pm.
Danielle’s body is expected to make its return journey home to Donegal early this week after police in India completed the post mortem examinations. It was found that Danielle was murdered and sexually assaulted on Monday night after she had been taking part in celebrations for the Holi Festival. A local man Vikat Bhagat, 23 — who police say has since confessed to her killing – has been charged with the crime.
Tributes continue to pour in for Danielle, who was described as kind-hearted, beautiful and loyal.
An emotional vigil was also held in India to remember Danielle, who had been travelling the country since the end of February.
