Campaigners demanding justice for Mary Boyle will gather in Dublin today on the 40th anniversary of her disappearance.
The ‘Justice for Mary Boyle’ group will travel to the city to march from the Garda Ombudsman’s office at 2pm through Grafton Street and on to the Department of Justice. The group will hand a letter to Department of Justice and hope to show strength for their cause in numbers.
Protestors are planning to bring toys and symbolic purple ribbons to leave at the offices on the day. Participants in the march are asked to wear purple ribbons in honour of Mary, who was understood to be wearing similar ribbons when she disappeared in Cashelard on March 18th, 1977, aged just six.
There has been a renewed focus on the case of Mary Boyle after an RTE Prime Time documentary aired last week to raise questions about her disappearance.
Gardai released new images of clothing similar to that worn by Mary Boyle on the day she went missing. Mary was wearing a lilac coloured cardigan and black wellington boots. Her twin Ann wore identical clothes that day.

It is hoped that Ann will lead the march through Dublin today.
Chief Superintendent Walter O’Sullivan of the Serious Crime Review Team has said that a full review of the case was currently being undertaken to identify every person who was in Cashelard on the day that Mary disappeared.
Ann Boyle, the mother of Mary, also spoke out last week to reveal how she has been receiving hate mail and even a bogus Christmas card from someone pretending to be her daughter.
“One was a Christmas card and the other was a letter, and the stuff that was in it was shocking. That threatened my life, and frightened the life out of me. One of them started off like it was from Mary. I mean, my God. That made me ill,” she told RTE’s Prime Time.
