The people of Glenties have expressed their sadness at the passing of popular parish priest Fr Patrick Prendergast.
Fr Prendergast passed away yesterday evening, aged 64, at St Vincent’s Hospital, Dublin after a short illness.
A spokesman for the Glenties Community Development Group said Fr Prendergast was a true friend of everyone in the parish.
“All of us in the Glenties Community Development Group are deeply saddened upon hearing of the death of our Parish Priest, Fr Pat Prendergast. Fr Pat was a private but exceptionally kind and gentle man who gave generously of his time to everyone that sought or needed it.
“His devotion to his faith and to the people of Glenties and Inniskeel Parish were hallmarks of his life and we are eternally grateful for the time he was amongst us and for the dedication he showed to his faith and his parishioners. May he Rest in Peace.”
He served in many parts of Donegal including Tory Island, Milford, Fintown and Ballinamore VEC school before he was made parish priest in Glenties in 1999.
His remains will leave his sister-in-law Mary Prendergast’s residence at Carolina House, Loughnagin, Letterkenny at 4.45pm on Wednesday.
They will be removed to St Connell’s Church in Glenties arriving at approximately 6.00pm to repose overnight.
His Requiem Mass will be held on Thursday, March 9 at 2.00pm in St Connell’s Church with burial afterwards in Glenties Cemetery.
