Carl McHugh returned to the scene of his horror head injury on Saturday to score his first goal for Motherwell.
McHugh netted the equaliser as Motherwell came from behind to defeat Kilmarnock 2-1 at Rugby Park.
It was here that McHugh suffered the injury in August on his Scottish Premier League debut; a wound – described by Mark McGhee as ‘really grim’ – requiring ten stitches and keeping him out for four months.
McHugh returned to action at the end of December and on Saturday he bagged his first goal for the Steelmen.
After Kris Boyd’s opener, McHugh leveled in the 50th minute as he finished from eight yards and ‘Well took the win as Zak Jules hit the winner.
“I worked very hard to getting myself able to play and I just want to keep helping the team now,” McHugh said.
“I didn’t know what kind of finish it was. I was just happy to get us back in the game. I had belief that we would get back. We can really be pleased with it and move forward.”
The win came just a week after a heavy 5-1 defeat by Dundee at Fir Park.
McHugh said: “It’s a big three points and it was very important that we bounce back from last week.
“It’s only one win so it’s nothing to get carried away with and it will take a few more of them to make up for what happened last week, but it’s a start.
“Everyone makes mistakes throughout the game but we covered each other and had each others backs and we’re going to need plenty more of that for the rest of the season.”
