A young Donegal singer has won the chance of a lifetime to sing with her idol – country music star Lisa McHugh.
Dunfanaghy girl Chelsea Evans, aged 12, was announced as the winner of a Facebook competition and will now get to sing alongside her idol Lisa, the Glaswegian star who has roots in Donegal.
Chelsea recorded a 20 second clip of herself singing Hillbilly Girl, one of the tracks from the new #LisaLive album.
She was selected to run in the final three before going to a Facebook vote. Chelsea received more than 1,000 votes from friends, family and fans to secure her win.
She will perform her winning song on stage with Lisa on March 10th at the Millennium Forum in Derry. She will also get a unique chance to meet Lisa before the show.
Chelsea, the daughter of Joy and Patrick Evans, will be bringing a crowd of excited family and friends to the venue to see her perform.
“Lisa is her idol. She looks up to her so much so this is such a great achievement for her. She is very excited but she is level-headed about it too,” Joy said.
Chelsea met Lisa for the first time at a Letterkenny show last year. She had tickets for the concert but could not see her perform because entry was not allowed for those under 18. However, Lisa took time to come out and meet Chelsea and get a photo.
Chelsea is in First Year at PCC Falcarragh. When she is not studying she is performing and organising music events. She has sung at charity events and local concerts. Chelsea organised her own fundraiser for the Holy Trinity Church in Dunfanaghy last year, raising more than €1,300 for the church. She plans to perform at more festivals this year.
The upcoming show with Lisa McHugh will be the biggest performance of Chelsea’s career so far. Chelsea’s debut CD, also titled Hillbilly Girl, was released in January 2017.
