A man caused more than €5,000 worth of damage after slashing more than 80 tyres on more than 20 parked cars.
Hugo McFadden used a Stanley knife to go on a slashing rampage on a housing estate in Letterkenny, Co Donegal on July 21st, 2016.
Letterkenny District Court heard how McFadden was spotted by a member of the public interferring with a car at Chestnut Grove just after 2.30am.
He fled but was spotted again acting suspiciously by Gardai at 4.45am and was arrested and was found to be in possession of a Stanley knife.
Gardai obtained a search warrant and founds cans of spray paint at his home.
It was later found that McFadden had used the spray paint to attack a local house.
Solicitor Frank Dorrian said his client, aged 36 of Chestnut Grove, Letterkenny was admitted to psychiatric care following the incident and was completely irrational.
He said he would normally try to seek time to get compensation for those whose property had been damaged but this was unlikely in this case.
Judge Paul Kelly asked for a probation report in the case.
