Donegal Parish Church is set to reopen next Sunday after being closed for almost two months after a lightning strike on Christmas Day.
It cost almost €20,000 to repair the significant amount of damage caused to the church, with electrical circuits being blown out, floodlights being smashed, and bricks being blasted from path walls leading to the church door. The church had to be completely re-wired, and they had to replace their sound system, on top of clearing up the destruction the storm left in its wake.
A service will be held next Sunday the 26th of February at 11am.
“We’re pleased the repair work is nearing completion,” the Rector, Ven. David Huss says, “and we’re really looking forward to getting back into the church.”
“Thanks to the hard work of our parishioners and the efficiency of our contractors we’ll be able to move into the church again on Sunday week,” Archdeacon Huss says.
“We’ve been enjoying having our services in the parish hall, but it’s been a bit of a squeeze. So we’re really looking forward to getting back in, and getting a bit more space again. I’m anticipating a great atmosphere at our Thanksgiving and Reopening Service.”
