Buncrana Tidy Towns and Wild Inishowen took part in the all-island One Million Trees in One Day initiative on Saturday 11 February planting over 140 native trees at Dunree Fort, Inishowen.
One Million Trees in One Day is a charity, not-for-profit, cross-border, community and environmental initiative which aims to plant a million young native trees at many different sites across both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland in 24 hours. Speaking after the day’s planting Buncrana Tidy Towns Spokeswoman Sinéad Ní Bhroin described the initiative as an absolute privilege to be part of adding that volunteers were blessed with a beautiful day for planting.
“Dunree Fort is a wonderful spot and we were all really excited about the opportunity to spend a morning adding to its beauty and natural environment.
“We are particularly grateful to Colm Grant of Wild Inishowen and George McDermott, Donegal County Council gardener and local Buncrana man, for all their advice and guidance. Colm even provided well-earned tea and buns for the volunteers at the end of a great morning.”
