Tomorrow marks the start of Galway RAG week, and Gardaí have vowed to adopt a “no-nonsence approach” during Donegal Tuesday.
The week hasn’t been backed by the Student Union since 2011 due to anti-social behavior exhibited from a minority of intoxicated students.
Nonetheless, the tradition of RAG week has been carried on by students and publicans.
The famous Donegal Tuesday attracts thousands to Galway for ceol and craic, with over 2400 interested in attending, and 2000 definitely attending according to the Facebook event page.
Festivities are to kick off at 9am at the Hole in the Wall pub on Eyre Street.
However this year Gardaí have vowed to crack down on anti-social behaviour.
Speaking to The Connacht Tribune, a spokesperson for Galway Gardaí said; “We will be focusing on antisocial behaviour as in previous years and we will be taking a no-nonsense approach.
“We’re not saying to people don’t enjoy themselves but we’d urge students to just be mindful of people around them. Everyone has responsibility for themselves.”
