A man has pleaded guilty to cultivating almost 100 cannabis plants at a house in Carrigans.
Chris McDaid, 31, appeared at Letterkenny Circuit Court today facing charges of possession and cultivation of cannabis plants.
McDaid pleaded guilty to the charges relating to the incident which occurred on October 23rd, 2015 at The Haw, Churchtown, Carrigans.
Barrister Sean Mac Aodha asked the court if he could have the case adjourned until next April to allow for a probation report.
However, Judge Martin Nolan said that he did not see what insight a probation officer would have into Mr McDaid’s case.
Mr Mac Aodha said that Mr McDaid was the father of a child who had a degenerative condition and that he had no criminal record.
He added that his client, of 41 Farm Hill, Foyle Springs, Derry, was in the process of gathering information on cannabis and its medicinal uses.
Judge Nolan asked barrister for the state, Ms Patricia McLoughlin, how many plants were found at the address and she said there were at least 87 young plants found.
“It was a fairly substantial growhouse,” she added.
Judge Nolan adjourned the case for sentence until Thursday week.
