The newest ambassador for Seachtain na Gaeilge 2017 has been announced as Michael Carey from Letterkenny.
Michael joins actor Art Parkinson as a representative of the festival, alongside RTE host Miriam O’Callaghan. The Donegal natives will be promoting the Seachtain na Gaeilge festival from 1-17 March this year.
Michael is a well-known star in Irish media through TG4 and the current series of Operation Transformation. He’s also active in the world of Snapchat – providing behind the scenes access to shows including Ros na Run and Dancing with the Stars on RTE.
Speaking on the news, Carey said: “I’m privileged and honoured to have been announced as an ambassador for Seachtain na Gaeilge ’17 along with Miriam O’Callaghan and Art Parkinson.
“Irish – the language and the culture is hugely important to me and I’m lucky to be able to have it at the heart of my work and as a central aspect of most of my hobbies and other pursuits. I’m passionate about it. I’m not a native speaker… I learned my Irish in school (Coláiste Ailigh) and am happy to be a life-long learner of the language. I make mistakes, but I’m not afraid to make them.
“The language for me has always been hugely welcoming, positive, inviting and useful and I hope to do my utmost to motivate others to feel the same way about it as I do,” Carey said.
