Siobhan McCafferty has scooped first prize in Donegal County Council’s staff energy saving idea competition.
Siobhan, who works as an Executive Architectural Technician in the Council’s Architects Office, received her new iPad this week for her ‘Switch Off Tuesday’ idea which will see Council staff becoming more aware of how simple energy saving actions can result in greater energy savings for the organisation and reduce our overall carbon footprint.
This competition was held as part of the Council’s Energy Awareness campaign which was launched in July last and is part of the Councils commitment to ISO 50001 accreditation which was obtained in November 2016.
“We were delighted with the response received from staff for this competition. The quality of the submissions was excellent and demonstrated a great interest among staff on the importance of improving our energy performance and we look forward to implementing Siobhan’s idea” said Donal Walker, Senior Executive Engineer.
“An important part of our energy management system is about identifying opportunities for improving energy performance and our staff have an important role to play in identifying these opportunities. We have conducted energy assessments on a number of buildings and we are putting in mechanisms to monitor consumption and engaging our staff as part of the Energy Awareness Campaign is critical to our success”.
