Gardai have taken part in a number of drug raids across Letterkenny today.
Both cannabis and cannabis plants were recovered during the raids which centred on three different addresses in the town.
One man has been arrested and is being questioned at Letterkenny Garda station.
Garda Inspector Goretti Sheridan confirmed to Donegal Daily that the raids are part of an overall campaign into the sale and supply of drugs in Letterkenny and across Donegal.
She has appealed to anybody with any information on the sale or supply of drugs in Donegal to contact their local Garda station or the Garda confidential telephone line on 1800 666111.
Today’s raids have been welcomed by local drugs campaigner and former town councillor PJ Blake.
“Although we all appreciate that An Garda Siochana are vastly under-resourced, I appreciate the efforts which are being made by the current drugs squad.
“Today’s raids are evidence that we still have a drugs problem in Donegal and that drugs are widely available if people want access to them.
“I would appeal to anybody with information which may help stop the sale and supply of drugs to contact Gardai,” he said.
