Concern has been expressed over moves by the Department of Agriculture to grant permission to several oyster farms at Braade Strand in The Rosses.
It is understood that a number of applications have been granted and a number of other decisions are pending.
Local county councillor Micheal Mac Giolla Easbuig says he understands the applications collectively are extensive.
The Independent councillor says local residents must make their feelings known on the issue.
“I am told between all the applications that it will be the size of 50 football fields.
“I strongly believe if any development is to go on the Strands around Rann na Feirsde,Annagry and Carrickfinn that there should be full public consultation.
“Our beaches and strands belong to our community and not any companies,” he said.
A meeting of locals is due to take place to discuss the applications.
