Customers of phone provider eir across Donegal are being targeted in an elaborate scam aimed at accessing their private bank accounts.

Hundreds of customers across the county have received fake emails from eir claiming their were overcharged on their latest bill after it was processed TWICE.

They are then redirected to a section which claims to process their refunds.

The emails comes with an eir logo and looks very legitimate.

However once in this section, customers are then asked to reprocess personal details including bank information.

There are fears that a number of customers have already been conned by the elaborate emails promising them a refund.

A spokesperson for eir said they are aware of the bogus emails but stressed that they would never approach customers in this manner.
