The community of Termon is in mourning after the death of Paddy the Cope Friel on Sunday evening at the community Hospital in Falcarragh.
Paddy, who was in ill health for the past year, was in his eighties.
Born to Neddie Friel of Termon, who was a founding member of the Coop in Termon Paddy, acquired the local title of Paddy the Cope.
In earlier years Paddy attended University where he studied medicine. He served a time as Community welfare Officer.
Paddy had a strong leaning towards politics and in 1978 he was appointed as private secretary with the then Justice Minister Patrick Cooney.
Later he took up a role in the Four Courts until his retirement.
A keen historian Paddy Friel was the first secretary of the Termon football club and he followed the fortunes of his beloved Donegal senior football team.
He is survived by his sister Nellie Strain and extended family
