Hundreds of mourners are expected at the funeral today of the 26 year old woman killed while returning home from work at a popular Donegal restaurant.
Amy Loughrey died when her car was involved in a head-on collision at Fahan on Thursday night.
Investigations into the cause of the crash, which happened just a short distance from where Amy worked at the Red Door Restaurant, are still ongoing.
She was killed instantly when her Fiat Stilo car was in collision with a Ford Focus.
A 24-year-old man who was driving the other car was taken to Letterkenny University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The family of Ms Loughrey, who live in the Waterside in Derry, cancelled their Christmas as a result of the horrific news.
Local priest Fr Michael Canny, PP, said he had been to Ms Loughrey’s
house and her family had taken down the Christmas decorations after the shocking news.
“It’s shocking news to get at any time but so close to Christmas it is
even more difficult to take.
“I know Amy’s mother well and we are just so sorry for her and all the family.
“They are taking down the Christmas decorations and tree and it really
will mean nothing to them,” he said.
Amy will be buried following 11am funeral mass at St Columbs Church at
Chapel Road in the Waterside, Derry today.
Garda Superintendent Eugene McGovern is leading the investigation into the crash and has appealed for any witnesses to come forward.
