Donegal Action for Cancer Care were delighted to be informed yesterday that Minster Harris will meet with them when he visits Letterkenny University Hospital this Monday. The meeting will take place at 3.30pm.
Betty Holmes says; “This is a very important meeting & we thank the Minister for this opportunity to raise in person our ongoing serious concerns. Our overall aim will be to ask the Minister for his help & support in arranging a follow up meeting at the Dept. of Health in Dublin as per our two meetings last year 27th February and the 20th August.”
“This is very important so that key Donegal folks can again sit around the table with the Dept. of Health, The HSE, The Cancer Control Programme, Saolta University Hospital Group Galway & Letterkenny, The Donegal Oireachtas Members and the two voluntary cancer groups CCCNW & DACC . We all get an opportunity to hear what is said & come up the road clear about how things are.”
“We need an update & report on the agreed actions from the meeting on the 20th August and also to discuss in detail the ongoing concerns that we DACC have been raising some of which are, the geographical catchment area for access to Radiotherapy at Altnagelvin for south Donegal cancer patients, the Breast Cancer Services at LUH, Prostate Cancer Services for Donegal men, (we know there some new developments at LUH with this) the long waiting lists for appointments & surgery at LUH ( including the restriction now of one day
theatre list per surgeon for January), the Cardiac Services and long waits at LUH and many more.”
“Remember cancer patients can need more health services than what is direct cancer services. We again must thank the Minister for meeting us. It is also important to thank the Donegal Oireachtas Members for all their help. We know it just made their day to get so many letters and emails from us in recent times. Like always we will continue to do our very best for Donegal cancer patients.”
“DACC will be travelling to the Dept. of Health in Dublin again on Tuesday morning as we have since last April as part of the Cancer Patients Forum involved in the new Cancer Strategy, it’s a long day leaving home at 8.30am for the bus and not getting home till 9.30pm that night.”
“For DACC it was very important to do this to ensure that the needs of Donegal cancer patients can be heard and included. We in DACC are all totally voluntary & unpaid. We pride ourselves on our work that we have been doing for over 11.5 years. We are not going away.”
“We may not always get it right but we work so hard non stop.”
“Thanks to everyone for all the support and kind messages, they mean so much.”
