Scammers pretending to be from the Revenue office have phoned customers and asked them to pay a tax bill immediately over the phone.
It is believed that people will receive a call with an automated voice message, claiming to be from the Revenue Commission. The message will tell you to call another telephone number, where they will ask for your personal information.
“An Garda Síochána would like to remind the public to be wary of any contact from an unsolicited source, whether it is by telephone or email.”
“Do not give out your credit/debit card, bank account, or PPS Number to anyone who makes contact with you over the phone. An Garda Síochána, Revenue, nor any Financial Institution will ever call you and ask for your PPS number or bank account details.”
If you receive such a call, you can contact the Revenue Commission’s Collector General Division on 1890 20 30 70.
Gardaí are also urging people to get in touch with your local Garda station or call the Garda confidential line on 1800 666111 if you receive a call like this.
