The Moville St. Patrick’s Day Committee have just launched a souvenir
booklet beautifully printed by Browne Printers, Letterkenny, to mark their
Silver Jubilee.
The organisation which was founded in 1990 has been responsible for the town’s very successful annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and several other related events since their formation after a specially convened meeting in St. Eugene’s Hall, Moville, on Feb 2nd 1990.
The booklet’s official launch date was to be at a specially organised
Pop-Up Museum that was to take place in the town in November but
unfortunately that had to be postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.
It has however been rescheduled for early next year. As a result it was
decided to have a less formal launch at this stage to ensure the booklet’s
availability for the anticipated Christmas market.
The material in the booklet is both varied and interesting featuring
extracts from the minutes over the years, A selection of pictures taken at
various parades and associated events, some reflections from committee
members and a few articles from local contributors.
Consequently it constitutes an important social and cultural document
reflecting the history of certain aspects of life in the town during the
past 25 years.
The committee would like to thank all those who contributed written articles
for publication photographs and other general information.
They would particularly like to thank Leo McCauley for his input and a very
special word of thanks to Cathar Sona who took responsibility for the
general layout and graphic design dedicating several hours to this onerous
task.
The booklet is a limited edition and is currently on sale in several local
outlets with a very attractive price tag of €4 euro- not much more than the
price of a cup of coffee.
A spokesperson for the group explained that given the mass amount of emigration from the locality some people might wish to purchase a few copies to send to family and friends abroad and also keep a copy for themselves so they deliberately kept the price to a minimum to
facilitate this and to give people a wee bargain at Christmas when the purse
strings might already be under severe pressure.
So as well as being a keepsake it also makes an ideal small Christmas gift and is also a most
enjoyable read with a nice little touch of nostalgia especially at this time
of the year.
If you are intending making a purchase you need to be quick because of the
limited number printed and as they say in the business when they’re gone
they’re gone. In addition to local outlets booklets can also be purchased
from any of the following committee members: Eamon McLaughlin, Gerard Sona,
Audrey Bredin, John Canning, Joe Bredin, Paddy Kearney and Martin McColgan.
