Gardai suspect thieves are using drones to spy on houses in a bid to steal property.
It follows and incident in Carrigans yesterday in which a drone, which is equipped with a camera, was used to observe houses and the backs of private houses.
Three men were spotted operating the drone in the Rushfield Road area.
Gardai were alerted but as they arrived in the area, the three suspects fled across fields.
Locals fear that footage from the drone was going to be used to target valuables from the gardens of houses.
Donegal Crime Prevention Officer, Sgt Paul Wallace, said drones are relatively new technology but all drones must be registered.
He said illegal activity of drones can have a severe impact on local communities including farming communities when such drones can frighten livestock.
He asked anybody with information of this incident or any other similar incident to come forward.
“We would ask anybody with any information on this particular incident or any similar incident to come forward and let us know,” he said.
