DERRY CITY captain Ryan McBride was the special guest at Kildrum Tigers Youths’ presentation evening on Thursday.
Candystripes captain McBride attended the function at the St Johnston & Carrigans Family Resource Centre and presented the prizes to the young Tigers.
A special presentation was made to Aaron O’Donnell, the Kildrum Under-14 player who scored the winning penalty in the recent Michael Cullen Under-14 Cup final against Trojans at the Brandywell.
O’Donnell stepped up to be the match-winner that night just weeks after he lost his father, Damien.
In September, Damien O’Donnell passed away in Dublin’s Mater Hospital following a battle with a kidney condition.
The death of the popular electrician, from Station Road in Carrigans, left a void in the border village, where a touching tribute was paid as the Christmas lights – which Damien wired each year – were erected earlier than usual.
Steady left-back Aaron has had an emotional couple of months, telling his team-mates before the penalty shoot-out: ‘Win it for my Daddy’. After the win, O’Donnell was given the task of accepting the silverware for his team.
