CAPPRY ROVERS U13’s
ULSTER CHAMPIONS
Cappry Rovers under 13’s made the journey to Letterkenny on Saturday afternoon in a match that was off and on from Friday evening to Saturday morning. Their opponents were Bonagee Utd and the prize was the Ulster Champion title and a place in the next round of the SFAI National Cup.
Cappry were depleted with a number of players missing due to illness and the lads had to call on a few reserves to bolster up the team. It wasn’t the ideal preparation for a cup final but they had to make the best of it. With the odds stacked against them Luke McGlynn got them of to the perfect start when he netted in the 5th minute to put Cappry 1 up. Bonagee held firm after this and the rest of the half was well balanced with both sides battling well. 3 minutes from the break Bonagee got back on level terms and that’s how they ended out the 1st half, 1-1.
Early in the 2nd half Cappry lost another player to injury when Jack Long received a bad tackle which ended up with him in A&E. Martin Mbuli came on in his place and had a fine game. 2 quick goals, 1 from Andrew Murray and a great goal from Conor McGinty had the lads cruising and from here on there really only looked like 1 winner. Further goals from Luke McGlynn, his 2nd of the match, and another from the impressive Martin Mbuli sealed the victory and booked the place in the next round, last 32 in Ireland.
It was hard on an impressive Bonagee team who competed well for 40-45 minutes and on another day could have easily have won. However, the Cappry lads who were drafted in were immense as were the regulars. Special mention to Conor McGinty, Eoin McGonagle and Martin Mbuli who are not regular starters but played a very important role.
On behalf of the club i would like to extend our congratulations to this very special team and wish you all continued success.
