A meteor that is believed to have landed in Donegal on Wednesday afternoon may be worth up to €500 per gramme!
Speaking to the Irish Independent, retired taxi driver John Gallagher says he caught a glimpse of the fireball as he drove between Donegal Town and Ballybofey.
“It was a huge fireball and it was very very close. It seemed to be going quite slow and then it seemed to drop.”
“I was just passing the turn-off for Harvey’s Point Hotel when I saw it. It was an incredible sight.”
“I reckon it fell to earth not far from where I was because it appeared to just stop glowing.”
Astronomy Ireland will be reviewing reports logged by people who witnessed the fireball and announce its approximate location tomorrow or Tuesday.
