A man who was due to face trial in connection with a €500,000 fire in Letterkenny, has been found dead.
Owen McFadden, was one of two men charged in connection with a massive fire on the town’s Main Street.
Several cars were destroyed and a number of businesses damaged following a blaze at an underground carpark at Rosemount Lane on September 29th last.
Several families living in an apartment block above the car park had to be evacuated from their homes in the middle of the night after the blaze broke out.
A local clothing shop, Watsons Menswear, and the adjoining O’Heir’s Bakery were forced to close for a number of weeks because of smoke damage.
Mr McFadden, aged 40, of Cavanconor, Falcarragh, and Paul McGinley, aged 30, of Glen Hola, Gortahork, both appear at a previous sitting of Letterkenny District Court.
Each faced ten charges, including nine of criminal damage and one charge of burglary when they appeared.
The men were later released on bail to appear at future court sittings.
However, McFadden was found dead in Dublin overnight.
Gardai are investigating the circumstances of Mr McFadden’s death but it is not understood the circumstances are suspicious.
